large scale fish shoal sculptures..

              Inspired by the furious movement & flowing forms created by fish shoals. Especially the bait balls, that are formed when shoals of fish such as herring being herded and then attacked by whales or dolphins, tuna and birds. The Cornish word for a fish shoal is “Hevva”...


             The first sculpture was made in whilst living in Gwithian, Cornwall, listening to the sea. From the outset I wished to design the sculptures to be able to explore the shadows that they cast, and using a single flickering candle, I discovered a beautiful shadow shoal dancing on the ceiling of my chalet. The sculptures can also be designed as lampshades, where the fish silhouette with strong lighting... 

           

           The shoals are also quite happy outdoors, the aluminium lightly oxidising with only a slight change, with the steel producing a lovely rust weathered appearance...
